Extracurriculars
Extracurriculars help define a college candidate beyond the curriculum. These interests and activities may be sponsored by MKA or with another organization or institution. Some students may play varsity sports or act in a school play; others may work at an Audubon sanctuary or serve soup to the homeless with a youth group.
Colleges are extremely interested in what students do beyond the classroom because colleges, like high schools, need athletes, musicians, activists, and actors to enrich their campuses.
Every student at MKA presents an extracurricular profile to colleges that is a significant factor in the admissions process. A small number of students—generally no more than ten—are recruited athletes. Several others may present impressive portfolios in the arts—graphic, musical, or performing—for consideration.
Potential college athletes work closely with the CCO’s Athletic Liaison, Tony Lambert. Aspiring artists present performance portfolios monitored by the Arts Liaison, Anthony Cuneo. CCO guidelines for athletes and artists may be downloaded from the website.
