The MKA Chorale is known for its distinctive performances of great choral works. In the past three years, this ensemble has performed such masterpieces as Mozart’s Requiem, Regina Coeli, and Coronation Mass, as well as Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem. Other performances include Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, Benjamin Britten’s Ceremony of Carols, and excerpts from Bach’s Magnificat and Beethoven’s Mass in C. Many of these performances are presented with a professional orchestra to enable the singers to experience these great works with the complete instrumentation. The thrill of performing this music with an orchestra is an experience that will stay with these students long after they leave MKA. It is our hope that by singing at MKA, a life-long love of classical music may develop in our students.
The MKA Mastersingers is an auditioned ensemble comprised of students from grades 10-12. In addition to supporting the work of the Chorale, this advanced ensemble performs additional works of greater complexity. Auditions are held each spring for membership in the upcoming academic year.
A professional CD is available of the MKA Chorale and Mastersingers 2006 spring concert, which featured an all-Mozart program with orchestra. Please contact Music Director
