What MKA's Graduates Say
Which colleges our graduates attend is a vital element of school
success, and we are justifiably proud of our graduates' record of
college admission and matriculation. However, MKA's program is not
designed to be college-admissions
prep, but true preparatory work for college. Consequently, we
look carefully at our graduates' record in college and listen carefully
to what they tell us about their experiences, and modify our program
accordingly. MKA's mission is to provide the strongest curriculum
possible for our students so that they are fully prepared for the demands of
collegiate work.
Each year, MKA analyzes the grades received by our graduates during their freshman year in college; we also survey our graduates in their freshman and junior years. Recently, MKA also surveyed our graduates from the most recent fifteen graduating classes. Here is what we learned:
• most of our graduates feel that their preparation at MKA was superior
to that of their college peers who attended other independent schools.
• our graduates feel better prepared for the academic demands of their
college than their peers, and feel that MKA's senior-year standards
were equivalent to or higher than their freshman year in college.
• our graduates rate their writing ability as their strongest and most
important skill for success in their college, and consistently rank
their ability far ahead of their peers.
• MKA teaches the following skills, necessary for success in college
and beyond, very well: writing, note-taking, working in and with
a group, and time management.
• over 50% of MKA's graduates had at least a B+ average for their freshman year of college; 85% had at least a B average.
• 90% of MKA's graduates complete college in four years or less.
• over half of MKA's graduates are working towards a graduate degree or have already earned one.
• 10% of MKA's graduates have earned a doctorate or are working towards one.
• for the Class of '06, their GPA for their freshman year of college was virtually identical to their senior year GPA at MKA.
