Admissions Main

The Montclair Kimberley Academy is an independent, coeducational, college-preparatory day school located on three campuses, each with its own character, linked by strong traditions dating to 1887. Our predecessor schools, Montclair Academy, The Kimberley School and Brookside School, are described in MKA's History. Our mission is described in Our Common Purpose.

The Montclair Kimberley Academy seeks students who are likely to find success in our challenging, college-preparatory curriculum. We consider each candidate separately from all others and look for individual strengths and learning styles. The Admissions Committee reviews objective and subjective data gathered from the student’s current school and from the admissions process.

In addition to the paramount criteria of academic achievement and personal integrity, applicants’ involvement in the arts, athletics and and their communities are looked upon favorably. MKA welcomes candidates of all ethnic, religious and racial origins and, in compliance with law, does not discriminate in any of its practices.

At the Primary School, the Admissions Committee seeks candidates and families to join a joyful and highly effective community of learners. Upper and Middle School applicants are evaluated for their readiness for a highly challenging, stimulating and broad academic and extracurricular program. We believe that our parents’ cooperation with and support for the school’s practices and goals improve their children’s learning and look for this in the admissions process.

MKA is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and is a double recipient of the United States Department of Education Blue Ribbon School Award, including a rare and prestigious Special Distinction for Ethics and Character Education.
