Upper School: Ethics & Citizenship

The Ethics and Citizenship Core curriculum is part of a unique and comprehensive program that fosters the character traits necessary to sustain democracy. Since we firmly believe that our students must not only care about their studies, but must also care deeply about how they conduct their personal, professional, and political lives, discussion of key virtues and MKA's related character expectations occurs across disciplines in a variety of contexts. Formal study of citizenship and ethics is woven into the ninth grade history curriculum, and students are required to take an additional Citizenship Core course during the sophomore year. In addition, students may take a semester elective course, Classical Studies of Ethics and Virtue.
