The social studies curriculum has five major strands: geography, history, economics, civics, and ethics. All strands are inquiry-based, encouraging students to develop basic research and note-taking skills. The geography strand addresses five essential themes: location, place, region, movement, and human interaction with the environment. The history strand focuses on comparisons between "then and now," while the growth of the market system provides the core economic thread. The civics strand at all primary grades includes discussion of equality, justice, and constitutionalism. The ethics thread incorporates MKA's seven character expectations and emphasizes fairness, a central aspect of both justice and equality.
