Instruction in a foreign language, either French or Spanish, begins in
pre-kindergarten and continues through students' attendance at MKA.
Students begin their language study with either the Primary School's
full-time French or its full-time Spanish teacher as part of a cohort
when they enter pre-kindergarten. Students who begin pre-kindergarten
in even years study Spanish; in odd years, French.
Teachers provide language instruction primarily through the use of
games, songs, rhymes, mime, role-playing, puppets, and various other
techniques. The oral aspect of foreign language acquisition is the
primary emphasis. Students learn written skills beginning in the second
grade.
